In this exhibition, ``Glitter = Boshi'', I created a work of Niboshi forming a circle on a round canvas, with the theme of ``Circulation''. Japanese, food chain, sardine tornado... Where does the circle begin?
Anchovy, the raw material for niboshi, is written in kanji as sardine. Although they are really weak fish, they are the unsung heroes that support so many ``circles'' of life. If the sardines disappeared, wouldn't that ``circle'' end? When I was a university student, I thought about this as I stared at the dried fish that I had mistakenly bought for a drawing assignment. From then on, Niboshi began to shine and I was hooked.
Niboshi embodies the memories and blessings of the majestic sea, and shines like a jewel. Each of us humans is a small and weak being, but each one of us is an irreplaceable existence to someone, and we are ``sparkling = boshi'' that shines as brightly as the sun. We are also members of the ``circulation'' that connects the baton of life.
I've been drawing for 18 years with the same pure, innocent feeling I had when I looked up at the first star shining softly on the ground through the cracks of the night curtain and pointed my finger at it. They are not the same. Be honest about your feelings even if others don't understand. I hope that my work will cheer up the people who see it.
